Singing together spontaneously: "Tag singing"
In no other genre of vocal music is it so easy to sing together spontaneously! In what is known as "tag singing" (from the American tradition), at least four people sing a very short piece – usually the end of a song. There is usually one person who knows all four parts and quickly teaches them to the others. As the pieces are short, this usually doesn’t take long, and no knowledge of music theory is required!
Below, we’ll show you, using two examples, what tags are and how the teaching usually works.
"Tag-Singing" is great, because...
...you can sing together spontaneously
...you get to meet new people and make friends
...you don't need to be able to read music
...everyone can join in
...it fosters a sense of community
...you get to learn something new
...you can try out your voice in a relaxed atmosphere
